The New Surf Web

If monster boards represents the old school web, then Seshn represents the new-school web. It’s the one where a company wants to gather lots of small, independent people together into one big group (so it’s easy to find cool stuff) and then monetize it. That’s not bad of course, everyone has to make some cash, so why not do it with something you love.

[…] [rant] In these two posts (1,2) I linked to two websites I consider polar opposites. The first link, Seshn is full of great content, has a really usable and clean design and is well thought out. I have to say though, the second link, monsterboards.org is the type of web site that inspires me about surfing and the web in general. […]

Thanks for the write up. First of all, the point of Seshn is to become a site that allows you to find the type of blog sites that you are looking for and that are legit. Currently we are not an open community to the public so all the content on our site comes from professional artists, writers, photogs etc that we feel provide the type of content that readers are interested in. Monsterboards is a great site and it is our goal to allow our users to find content such as monsterboards, with ease through seshn, instead of going to a million different sites to seek the info they need.

  • Think Baja violence is confined to TJ? Yeah, I did too. I stopped 6 hours south in El Rosario for tacos last Friday, on Saturday there was a drive by shooting at the La Mijita loncheia. La Mijita is popular with locals and gringos and by all accounts was run by generous people. The targets were 3 'self employeed' area men, but the husband and wife owners were hit by stray bullets. The wife just passed away.

  • Malwitz Surfboards is attempting to raise 2000 dollars for Surfrider by building a board for one lucky raffle winner. Tickets are 1 for 5$ or 5 for $20. Just one ticket gives you around a 1 in 400 chance at winning a new board. Sick idea.

  • I can't get through the whole read, but here's an impassioned rant against the surf industry, for those of you who are pissed off that most of these companies don't step in and help the environment more.

  • Warbles is having a good time with this whole, "the bodysurfer won, and the poser lost, therefore the world is going to be a better place, we hope" thing.

  • What if a building sized machine drove into a forest and started scooping up all the animals around you. That's what it's like being a tuna. I also like this microdocs film: big fish.
