Surfmat
James McClellan was kind enough to send me this picture of a wave slider on a nice peak after I pledged to give surfmatting a go this year. After looking at this photo I realized matting has to be the fastest you can go on a wave while feeling every curve and every bump it has to offer.

Also, it must be REALLY fun to have a crash up derby with a bunch of friends. :D

“Everybody is acquainted with some form of real-world magic. It’s usually something that breaks every time-honored rule, does its job without expending an ounce of effort, and manages to do so without revealing itself to anyone who isn’t already cognizant. And you can’t make a practice of broadcasting this information, because even if you provide people wth irrefutable proof, they’ll sneer in your face then make it a point to tell everyone they encounter for the rest of their lives that you’re completely crazy. …On the few occasions when i’ve lost perspective and publicly stated that an air mattress is capable of leaving the cleanest, straightest, fastest vapor trail across the face of a wave-well, how are you feeling about my capacity to function in society right about now?”-Paul Gross from Inflatable Dreams, TSJ.
The picture is of me, taken by photog Joel Mayer in NorCal in early January. Some of us came out from the east coast to slide a few on our mats and flexspoons. The neumatic surfmat is by far the fastest piece of equipment i’ve ever ridden, standup, prone, or kneeling. As for BattleSurf, it is definitely the most fun you can have with your clothes on. Especially at a wave like Pleasure Point where you can run over each other back and forth all the way down to the Hook, bouncing off the foamball, and clipping longboarders at the knees when they drop in on the weirdos on rafts!
Everyone should try one at least once

Hi Rob - thanks for stopping by my blog at Life’s A Beach (ww.s-e-x-wax.com) the other day. I’m just about to list you guys under “Beach Bum’s Best Bloggers” . That Surfmat device looks a right old laugh. I gotta post about it - I’m not sure many of us lot in the UK & Ireland have seen one in action. I guess it would make a comfy old mattress to rest one’s ass after a bit of (wave) action…
Cheers,BB
