Skip Frye Fish

This Skip Frye Fish belongs to Cardiff Chris. That’s one hell of a nickname to live up to, but a quiver including this ride would be a nice starting point. More after the jump.

The Upsetters - 14 Dub Blackboard Jungle -
One of the first dub albums to surface from the mega watt depths deep inside Jamaica circa 74. Originally released in a batch of 300 LPs, now available at your finger tips remastered and restored. If you don't have this, do yourself a favor and jump into the abyss.

oh yeah, and I dig the sneaky shaka hiding behind that beautiful board.
(I reckon the board is normal sized and cardiff chris is just a midget)

I have a 10′6″ Eagle on the way…
(I have a connection…)
How big’s the fish?

very nice lines and finish
but too big
lose fish feeling to obtain more float

San Diego guys have been riding big fishes/whale fishes since the inception of the design. The long lines you can draw on bigger fishes are insane. My 7′8″ is incredible for flatter-faced days. On these I like single foiled fins with more rake (a la Nuuhiwa) to compensate for the extra size. Some guys just like bigger boards.

well, may be for some
but in that case is better a mini egg or an egg (with contemporary rocker)

It’s hard for me to say what’s better for people. Bottom line is that if people are into what they’re riding let them have it. There is always room for interpretation, and Skip has been making his “big fish” for quite a while now. I trust he knows what’s up.

If a surfer has style they surf any board they like well.
One of my favorite youtube vids was RK surfing a 7 foot fish with long flowing cutbacks. So good to watch but he pulled off the site. bummer.

I used to have a big fish on steriods (that’s what I called it), it was 8feet and gorgeous. Really filled out, red resin tint, swallow tail, glassed on twinzer. I have to admit I never quite got the hang of how to ride it…and I like big boards, too. Nonetheless I sold it and I really regret it now. As my surfing has progressed I wonder if I would have liked it more and more.

I just said it was big, not that it was wrong for being so. I’ve always wanted to try one of those 9′ or so quad fish longboards but haven’t had the chance.

Clay, the comments were in response to Reverb’s statements, not yours.
And, the 9′ quad fishes are just incredible. Toby made me one in 1990 and I had all kinds of people looking at me like I was nuts. A 9′ fish? A quad? Why the hell would you ride a 4-fin? Stuff like that. I love how much more open-minded most people are today. Again, I just ride what interests me and I’m stoked when people stretch their minds a bit. I’m not so interested in black/white when it comes to surfboards.
