Rocket Fish
I found this video on the erBB of Dave Rastavich showing off a couple of his favorite carbon fiber fish.
The first one is an absolutely insane ‘Rocket’ fish that looks like the perfect hybrid of a shortboard and a fish. I first saw Daniel Thomson riding one of these boards and it blew me away with how much speed and drive he had, without loosing any of the rail burying control I normally associated with a thruster. Both of these guy’s surfing proves the fish can be so much more than just the wide nosed, flat turning Kane Garden classics you see everywhere. Not that there is anything wrong with those boards of course, but if you want to lay down turns like you do on a thruster (with a little different style) this might be your shape.

If you are looking for one of these shapes, Daniel Thompson is in San Diego at the moment shaping and taking orders. Check out this sick thread by DK for contact info. You couldn’t do any better than getting a shape like this from one of the two main guys defining how they can be ridden.

I was lucky enough to live with daniel in a house on the beach in his hometown of lennox head. Spent my days surfing the fishes daniel was riding, shaping and developing.
Everything from carbon fibre 5,6 fishes to retro old school fishes. Changed my entire perspective on surfing.

Its pretty cool that I just picked up the fish you see Daniel shaping, if you click on the link “thread by DK”, used from DK. Volume seemed low for me and as I paddled it out today for the first time my suspisions seemed correct, that is until I took off on a wave and the board blew my mind! So much speed and control, possibly more so than my thruster! The board rips. I want another.
