Maek Art

Maek Media is putting on another gallery opening this Saturday in Encinitas. Featured artists include Chris Miller, Jeremy Wray, Mike Losness and more.

From the site: A group art show featuring the works of artists and the creative staff from Earth Products and its companies- Planet Earth, Adio, and Holden Outerwear. 7-11PM. Live music by The Mattson2 and Adrian (live jazz turntable mashup- don’t miss this!!). Wine and food. Good art and nice people.

I get a kick out of Mattson2, those guys are cool. It’s nice that we get to go to all these hipster art shows lately. Encinitas was becoming yuppie hell.

The Jet Stream as viewed from the South pole gives a pretty clear indication of why the next few weeks is going to be pretty small. What we need, is a trough from under NZ to halfway across the Atlantic, then a northward spike pointing directly at us.

46% of White shark attacks were on divers, but in attacks in which the victim was collecting marine creatures, only 10% of attacks were against urchin divers. Abalone divers didn't fair so well though in this statistic, as 56% of those attacks were against them.

The Cali Department of Fish and Game has an Urchin Fishery page which contains some really interesting info: The number one diver in 2006 brought in 233 thousand pounds, worth 118 thousand dollars. Another tidbit: The total California catch has declined dramatically from 25 million pounds in 1991 to 7.5 million pounds in 2003.
