Imposter Of The Month
The Imposter Of The Month award goes to 9:Fish surfboards. No real shaper would ever put out a video containing such lousy surfing to promote his product. The madness doesn’t stop there though, 9:Fish made tons of these crappy vids. The important thing to keep in mind here, is the guy behind this company isn’t a shaper, he’s an importer of boards made by non surfers.

Word. I’ve never seen such crappy surfing meant to sell boards. WTK?!? The waves look sucky too. This guy obviously has no clue.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I agree that the dude(tte) is probably an importer and not a shaper. But, I’m sure you understand that you don’t need Andy Irons’ level of surfing to sell a board.
It’s important to show the average punter riding your boards.
An example: (shameless plug) http://santangelosurfboards.com.au - this is a site I have just finished. Check out the team riders. They aren’t the best around, blokes they are blokes who love to surf. Some of them surf better than others, but that doesn’t really matter does it?

holy balls!
“totally ripping action! you don’t need a longboard to get your fat ass on the wave, anymore!”
yeah, i kinda agree with Dylan, a wee bit, about that average punter vibe, it’s too bad the message gets lost on that remark, cuz this video is HORRIBLE. Anonymous cloner companies should stay anonymous. but it does kinda give you a taste of how these guys are gonna start marketing their boards in the coming years. regular joe style. gonna make all the local shapers look elitist.

9:Fish is definitely and importer. He was on the panel defending his outsourcing to China at Sacred Craft.
Dylan, the surfers you show on your site, while not top pros, have 10 times the skills the these guys display. The point here isn’t to bag on the average guy, unless of course the average guy doesn’t understand the culture enough to ride a board made by surfer labor.
Surfboards made by surfers give wavesliding an important part of it’s soul and character. It’s part of what keeps surfing from being a sport and should be preserved.

All surfers deserve well designed boards that make sections and improve your surfing.

There was a Surfrider beach clean-up at the home break last weekend. Unfortunately, 9:Fish set up a canopy next to them. That ensured that the locals were going nowhere near either of the canopies. I just cleaned up the beach voluntarily (like I do after every session).
Have you seen the boards in person? They look even worse than they do in the videos. My 77 year old mother, who knows nothing about surfing, refused to by a raffle ticket to win one (at a surf event last year) because she instinctively knew something wasn’t right about them. I hadn’t even said anything to her about the boards. If an old black lady knows your boards suck, then your boards must suck pretty badly.
