Hi Shredability

In the last few months, I’ve been solicited by tons of video sites hoping to cash in on the online video rush through surfing. The sites have ranged from ambitious one man mashup efforts to big funded sports shows that think surfing goes well with guys in powder blue blazers spouting dick and ball sport scores. Some are interesting, some are a joke, some have even offered to pay me to send you their way.

Hi Shredability

Hi Shredability on VBS.tv is the latest promo email I received and set aside. When I finally got around to clicking through though, I was pleasantly surprised. I’ve only watched the Dan Malloy (1,2,3) and Kegel shows so far, but they amount to some of the best surf shows on the internet OR TV. The Kegel vids go a long way to proving the haters wrong about the massively creative Spacer behind Gato Heroi, while the Dan Malloy clips are a must see series that correctly portray him as one of the eclectic and Karma correct rippers in the water. I recommend you waste part of your day at Hi Shredability soon.

Vice TV, Hi Shred, high time, I say.

I felt dumber after watching the Alex Knost segments.

Gotta agree with you on the Malloy stuff though. Cool to see a little insight into what that guys up to. The whole move to Patagonia really seems to be working well for him.

Hi Shred’s blogger is pretty awesome too. More ways to loose that oh so valuable time!

    I disagree with lawless.

The Alex Knost pieces are brilliant, mostly because they are a pretty accurate portrayal of what the guy is like. He just doesn’t give a fuck. He takes inspiration from everywhere. It’s like he takes a sledge hammer to everything (surfing, culture, music) breaks it, and puts it back together in incredible ways. All this in the middle of a culture that encourages homogeny, and conformity (so that people can be marketed to or exploited in some way). He doesn’t live, surf, or think in any pre-defined box. He is on his own trip, and he is stoked on anyone else that is.

If his surfing weren’t just as twisted, and original as the way he talks, dresses, paints, drives, etc… then I would just chalk it all up as fashion, but it is and Al is one of the beautiful souls of surfing.

That said, I understand how the kid can come across.
