Full GH Shots

I got a chance to surf the new GH this weekend. I’ll hold off on how she goes until I get to surf the waves it was meant for, but I will say I got a glimpse of the magic. Some pics of before she was waxed…

    Nice Rob70.
It looked like you started to figure it out on one of your last waves the other night at Cardiff. You did the right thing by taking the highline and making those two tough sections and that was a nice floater/hack on the inside. You gotta surf those GH fishes kind of aggressively like a twin fin and keep it on a rail. Yeeeeeah!

  2. lawless Says:

Nice! Those are the money shots there.

Pulled in nose, wide tail, looks like a more back-foot oriented board as opposed to most fish which are more front-footy feeling.

Is the wide point behind the center of the board or is that just an optical contusion from the pics?

  3. Rick Says:

That thing actually has rocker too. Rock and roll…

  4. reverb Says:

    …the first pict is superb…

  5. mitch Says:

Killer…diggin’ the resin work. Have a good time and thanks for sharing “full frontal” shots!

  6. rob70 Says:

David, I would say the wide point is back of center. I like boards like this, as being kind sorta tall, I always feel I have to stand too far forward. As far as front or back oriented, I’m not sure. I’m mostly a front footed surfer, trying hard to use both. :D

JP, I was so tired that session, I was just blowing waves. So I’m not counting it. Always fun to surf with you guys though.

Resin work courtesy of Moonlight Glassing of course. :D And all photos by Maggie Marsek.

I’m a tall drink of water myself so I can relate to that issue.

That board is a rad mix of elements which is where I think these types of boards really start to shine, once they are refined and newer concepts are applied to more traditional outlines. Pulled in noses, wide points shifted back, and modern rails all have the makings of a really sick modern ripper. All those attributes are more geared towards more progressive surfing styles which is sick, why re-hash old ideas (read: retro boards) if you’re not gonna apply modern design concepts into them and try and move them forward.

Definately post some updates once you get it dialed in.

  8. JP Says:

I agree with Lawless’s last post, those GH fishes are anything but “retro”. The rails GH puts on those boards are so bitchin’ and I heart the Lowboy fin template.

  9. rob Says:

    stoked! what a beauty

  10. pinliner Says:

Nostalgia plus Amnesia = Retro. That board is NOT Retro.

  11. bobsurf Says:

That’s my next board. Maybe with a bit more nose for the small, mushy days. Light, rippable, modern twin fin fish. That board is made for Leucadia, in Leucadia.

  12. Eric in Morro Bay Says:

It might have been made IN Leucadia, but it’s made for EVERYWHERE. Mine has scored many of CA’s finest waves in their finest hours, from Rincon to Santa Cruz, and many spots in between. I’ll always have a GH twin in the arsenal.

    You’re stoked, dude.

  13. rob70 Says:

I surfed it yesterday at Swamis in lumpy, 4-6 foot. It was kinda tuff going, but towards the end of the session I started to get it together. Today, at my home Leucadian reef/beach break in 3-5 foot glassy peelers I got it wired.

I’ll try to post a full write up later.

  14. TinyU Says:

Beautiful! Congrats on the new addition. I haven’t surfed my GH in ages, but I’m inspired. I love the green coffee stain circles!

  15. Dan in Oregon Says:

Howzit Rob – I used to live in Eugene – don’t know if I know you. Anyway, I am loving the way this board looks. I am thinking of ordering a GH myself, and was wondering what the dims of this board are?

    Alohas

  16. Dan in Oregon Says:

oops – meant I used to live in Leucadia – live in Eugene OR now.. haha

  17. rob70 Says:

    Dan,

    15 x 20 1/2 x 16 1/2 x 2 3/4

If I had to do it again, the only change I would make is one set of small wings to bring the tail in quicker. MAYBE a touch less nose rocker, but that’s an experimental change more than anything.

You can’t go wrong with one of these from GH. Email me though the about page and I’ll get you his number if you want it.

  18. Ed Fladung Says:

great lookin’ sled, man. that is some serious rocker for a fish but that just means you can use it on some bigger days. i dig the design too. nice mix of funky and clean.
