Festivus Tres

I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make it to Festivus this year, which is a shame, because they’ll be some rad people there fondling some beautiful boards, checking out gear and plotting how they are going build an artist/surfer/musician’s compound like Richard Kenvin’s, but cooler. Thing is, they haven’t got a chance in hell.

Go for the bands, the cheep beer, to buy a tee, or to sneer at the big industry types who’ll be trying to find their Core by spying on Matus, Swift and Co.

Seems that Joel Tudor's name got trademarked in Japan by some company, so now he's having to sell his boards under a new label. Imagine not being able to use the name you spent 30 years of surfing building?

The Rip Curl Pro starts today. In comparison to the Billabong Pro JBAY site which was super fast and easy to use, the Rip Curl Pro site is a massive failure. Security cert to view video? Popup warnings and buffering? Please. I bet a review of user engagement statistics from both sites would make Rip Curl execs cry.

Sequence images of a shark doing a drive by on a New Smyrna Beach surfer. Wild. The natural law of the ocean is, if it's bigger than you, it can eat you. So why is a smaller shark so bold about cruising up to a larger animal? If there were more natural prey, would this encounter have happened?
