ExposureMeter
Every few months Transworld Surf puts out their ExposureMeter. It’s a graph of the top 50 surfers ranked by the number of ads, photos and mentions they’ve had published in the major mags.

Here’s the basics on reading the chart: orange is paid ads, grey is editorial. For me, the most interesting info provided by the exposure meter is who is getting coverage without being schlepped about ad space like the newest carrot peeler/slicer/wedger. Case in point: Dan Malloy comes in at 22nd on the ExposureMeter, without a single ad published. Thats a 0 add edit ratio and 3rd for total editoral. Can you tell I enjoy these stats? Only two other waveriders in the top 50 didn’t drop a dime for their coverage: Rasta (40th), and Austin Smith-Ford(44th).
Another interesting bit about the ExposureMeter is the Logo Wars. It’s a tally of the total number of logos apperances a brand has recieved. Channel Islands rings in at number 1. I would bet they payed much less to get there than Quik paid to get to number 3.
While this is fun, I’d like to see something like this related more to surfing and less to business, like, I dunno, maybe a SprayMeter?!? Come on TWS, get out the protractor and get some intern measuring fans and counting water droplets! My money is on Pancho for the Total metric tons of displaced water category.
