DM3 Fletcher Chouinard Model
The DM3 is a new Fletcher Chouinard swallow tail thruster developed with and for Dan Malloy. Dan will be in the shop on May 3rd, answering questions about his new sled, which he says is… “The best all-around shortboard I’ve ever had.”.
I own a KMRP, and I’ll vouch for both the shape and the construction method. When you combine the weight, how it surfs, and durability, it equals out to the best thruster I’ve ever owned.
Oh yeah, the FC site is new, but it’s pretty effing bland.

…what the heck with that dm3 stuff?
lots of shapers (me included) do those types of boards in daily basis
also I tweak here and there for specific customer needs
and truly custom
and of course truly handcrafted without the machine
Im really tired of those pseudo shapers

…I tried to say that most do those shapes but without blahbling about new models, etc

Any shaper that gets feedback from a surfer of the caliber of Dan Malloy, is going to put out a better board.

…yes,
but there ´ lots of fine craftmen with hi caliber surfers feedback
that not trying to impress with “new” (no new) models, etc
and D Malloy is a great surfer, better than most in a fish, for example

Reverb-
Sounds like you drank your hatorade today.
I’m just wondering…do you do these original custom shapes for Dan Malloy quality riders out of polyester or epoxy?
I’m pretty sure these guys were proud of a two year project and wanted to celebrate the amount of time and effort and testing that went into its creation, is being proud of that accomplishement so wrong?
These guys build their blanks by hand, from the stringer forward. Do you do that? Or do you buy premolded polyurethane or EPS? They have settled on the combination of materials they have based on trial and error, breaking literally thousands test panels, and from feedback from a lot of guys like Dan.
Have you done any testing like this?
They can put triple 4 oz decks and double 4 oz bottoms on a 6′0 and have it come out lighter than a single 4oz deck, single 4 oz bottom polyurethane board. They also replace boards that get legitimately broken because they believe in their methods of construction.
Do you stand behind your boards like this?
And implying that someone who uses a shaping machine is a pseudo shaper is a questionable statement. Perhaps you mean that anyone who hasn’t cut their teeth by shaping from raw is a pseudo shaper and in that case some may agree with you, however these guys’ head shaper apprenticed under Parmenter, and if you want to insinuate that he’s a pseudo shaper go for it, I dare ya.
