Some LA Surfers face drives of up to 45 minutes to get to waves, and an hour or longer to get to less crowded spots, then there is the possibility of traffuc.

yup, thats true. doesnt seem like such a big deal at all. the drive from long beach to trestles or sano is at least an hour with no traffic…..but, i never feel like its not worth the trip. hell, we sit in traffic all the time……..at least theres waves at the end of my surf commute.

Well, an 1h 30m from Portland, one way, reside some of the best breaks in the NW. Shall I say on the West Coast……. Always worth the trip!

Nomad - shhhhh. That’s why I always smile when folks in Portland give me that “look” when I tell people I surf. When I visit LA, between the commute, traffic, and parking it ends up taking the same amount of time to get wet.

I was looking at the drive from Portland to the sea on google maps the other night, and it looks like you guys would be driving down fun roads with beautiful scenery.
LA is freaking ugly.

I love the dawn patrol drive.
In my youth twas a bike ride away and now a good 45, be it OC, LA or the nard.
I don’t really mind the drive at all.
It’s just another part of the surf, with loud tunes, good cup a’ fuel and some solo time anticipating the groomed morning surprise.
Lovely.

Rob… it’s not THAT pretty… ;-) Pine trees can be such an eyesore.

Exactly Warm Jet. My feelings exactly. Love the drive to surf. LA isn’t that bad at all before 9am. And at 5am it is perfect.

Ditto Push and Warm Jet, driving the canyon in the early mist is beautiful, seen many a deer. I’m in the water in a hlaf hour.

Let me re-state that, “I’m in the water at a world class break in a half hour” :)

Clear cuts, victory at sea, big sharks, 1 in 10 spots working 3/4s of the time, ice cream headaches, 5/4s, horny sea lions…..Oregon sucks. Viva Socal!

Now the drive back is another story. Unless of course it’s post a handful o’ barrels!
That has’nt happened for me for a while so i have to make do with a little KCRW to enjoy the journey. (”This American Life”, my fav)
Nic Hardcourt can suk………..!
We need Doritas back!
If anyone knows what I’m talkin’ bout.(I’ll bet Patch does)

45 minutes? Dude, spare a thought for me. Stuck in the middle of blighty with a 3hr drive to the nearest surfspot on either coast…
worth it though.

well I live in the UK - I have a 5 hour drive to get to the closest break, which is Saunton North Devon. So don’t think you should complain, none of you ;)
