I couldn’t be more excited. Maggie Marsek (the photographer who shot the fish fry for 70) has this great piece in the art auction, so if you are going, bid it up! The only thing I’m not sure about is what the invite ment by “semi-formal surf attire”.

Gerry Lopez’s First Waves at Pipe
Saturday, May 6th, 2006Gerry Lopez recounts his first surf at pipe. I’m sure he has given an interview on, or talked about this somewhere before but it’s the first time I’ve ever read or heard the story. True to form, the man who would recieve the deed to Pipe if the ancients ever give one out, spends the first few paragraphs talking about being humbled by the wave.

art slob
Thursday, April 20th, 2006Give Art Slob another few months and it’ll be a full length animated feature about a strange plant. The plant gives off an aroma so powerfull, even the most talented glassers bursts into balls of color. Through their trancendance are are able to quit their jobs, eat squid and flying pigs and live happily on 6 foot glassy surf the rest of their days. They’ll still paint and pin and glass the bonzers though.

-comment- - Holy shit. One of the guys from WEND magazine is going to go 3 months without consuming ANYTHING that has 1 time use plastic associated with it...
No coffee lids, cellophane wrapped anything, packaging, salsa containers, yogurt, straws, dish soap containers, toothpaste, etc.

-comment- - A Taiwanese longliner sought by Green Peace for various crimes runs aground at Padang Padang. Insang.
-comment- - CJ Kanuha is desperate for money. So desperate in fact, that he tried to standup surf a wave generated by falling lava. Taken alone, that might just have been some ballsy playing around, but it's pretty clear from the fact that he and a photographer payed for a helicopter so they photograph it, that it's a big publicity stunt. From the photos it looks like all he got from the effort was melted wax and burned shins. Hilarious.
-comment- - Pic of a guy in Florida in the middle of a turn with a shark jumping out the back of the wave. Heh.

-comment- - Teaser for Brian Conoly's, My Eyes Won't Dry 3. I hope he mixes it up with some B roll and 2nd angles a bit on this one, but even if he doesn't, it's gonna be amazing.

-comment- - Kiribati warned that by the end of the century, their country would be underwater, due to global warming. They should start on this Maritime colony project now. Anyone surf there?
