Andoland, Andy Davis’s shop opens
Some friends and I met up at the Andoland opening in Costa Mesa and found a packed event, the Japanese Motors, a full art show and some rad Ts and art. Canvas and prints filled with Andy’s cartoon carvers, tube riders and nose perching figures occupied a temporary gallery behind the store. An animation roto-ed from a wave in Morning of the Earth looped on one entire wall. Drawing and surf style never went so well together. Check it out at andoland.net His prints and paintings were priced so affordably, I really regret walking out without.
The Japanese Motors, fronted by Alex Knost, played on a flatbed to about 40 people. AK had work hanging as well… text mixed with blind and left handed drawings of mexi skulls and mad figures. Freeform drawings leaked onto the walls beside graffiti and all works went to the under 21 crowd for half off.
All in all, we had a great night, the shop was cool, the art even better. If you can, get over to andoland. You’ll find it here.
