Gibbons X Boards

Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Allan Gibbons sent me more of his experimental boards (I can’t get enough of these). Here’s a few shots from at least two different flex tail fish, one with a step rail of sorts. With a little luck, Allan will drop in and comment on how they ride.

Wednesday, May 30th, 2007

I just found this interview with the mellow artist and surf shop owner John Mollusk at All About Surf. I met John this weekend at his shop on 46th and Irving in San Francisco. John gave me some low down on Hulls, hobbit holes and no stinkeye. None.

EPS on the WCT

Thursday, May 24th, 2007

Stretch has a really wild take on why pros aren’t riding EPS boards:

“Those guys get so many boards for free, who can afford to give them epoxy boards? They’re really expensive to build. The materials are more expensive; the glue is almost twice as much. Plus, I can get a PU blank for 65 bucks and it costs me 110 dollars for an EPS. So if you’re a sponsor and your WCT guy wants 50 boards, do the math. You just spent an extra 15,000 dollars to use epoxy. So basically everyone builds those guys cheapo boards.”

Perverse

Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

I can’t see this Surftech popgun being ridden at anything bigger than 5 foot Swamis, where it would fit right in. Side note: Why Dick, why?
